Always in the logic that what will be used tomorrow must be big, powerful and beautiful (sic...) the RAEUDL (I repeat Reichbahnanstalt für die Entwicklung Unwahrscheinliche Dampflokomotive) did not forget to put his hands, or rather, his pencil, on the honest and beautiful T3. Evidently, having a fleet of several thousand locomotives that performed their duties efficiently and economically was a problem for these bosses. It was necessary to find a defect for the T3 and by dint of looking for it, it was found that they had some difficulty in handling the most onerous local services.
Here was born the project, due to Eng. Heinrich Prosdocimi of Schwarzkopf in Berlin: the Doppel-T3, with the same axle load, the same speed performance, but capable of important tractions, even if over short distances, limited by the stocks of water and coal, which, in Prosdocimi's project, had to remain unchanged.
A prototype was built in 1909, which was named "Laugenwaeckle" after the butter sandwiches that Gertrude Baumgartner, the engineer's lover, liked so much.
Considering the bending radii to which T3 was subjected you can imagine what was the outcome of the experiment... Ale'... more steel to recover. The prototype was immediately sawn and two excellent T3s were produced, one of which is still running in the North of Italy.
Prosdocimi was immediately promoted to the position of Director General of the "Reichsbahnamt für Verspätungen und Schädlinge" (Service for Delays and Harmful Insects) of the Reichsbahnen... It should also be mentioned that the operations of this office are responsible for the low incidence of insect infestations that the German railways have enjoyed over the decades.
